In this post, I’ll introduce the first step of the mixing process I’m building based on the video tutorials made by professional producers, I’m talking about Gain Staging, this post will be a short step-by-step article.
STEP 1
Set the volume to default value in all Mixer channels :
STEP 2
Set the volume to 100% in all instruments and elements in the Channel Rack, but keep voices and sample at original volume:
Step 3
Enable instruments one by one, and change their volume from the source ( like vst )
STEP 4
Change the volume as described in step 3 to reach -15db in the Mixer Master channel ( value between -10db and -18db is correct)
STEP 5
Repeat steps 3 and 4 for all instruments.
STEP 6
Once all instruments are processed (steps 3 and 4), move back the volume to default in the channel rack.
STEP 7
Export your project tracks to WAV files using this configuration :
STEP 8
Create a new empty project and load all wave tracks to the playlist :
Now, we are ready to start the next step of the mixing process, which is Leveling and Panning, if you have any suggestions, please add a comment below, this way we can update this post.
